After a 2-year absence, the Lawton
Philharmonic Orchestra returned with two concerts in 2006,
on February 18 and March 11.
The February 18th concert included works
by Rossini and Beethoven. The Cameron University Concert Choir and
members of other community choral organizations joined the orchestra to
perform the well-known Polovtsian Dances by Borodin. Dr. Earl
Logan, Associate Professor of Music from Cameron University will
conduct.
The second concert, on March 11th,
presented works by Giuseppe Verdi, Aaron Copland and the great
orchestral showpiece Scheherazade by Nicolay Rimsky-Korsakov.
Jon Kalbfleisch, accomplished conductor and musical director who was
born in Lawton and now lives and works in the Washington D.C. area,
conducted the March 11th concert. Mr. Kalbfleisch is a thirteen-time
Helen Hayes Award nominee and three-time recipient of that honor.
